Abstract: Infecting large portions of the global population, seasonal influenza is a major burden on societies around the globe. While the global source sink dynamics of the different seasonal influenza viruses have been studied intensively, its local spread remains less clear. The 1968 pandemic was caused by an influenza A (H3N2) virus comprised of two genes from an avian influenza A virus, including a new H3 hemagglutinin , but also contained the N2 neuraminidase from the 1957 H2N2 virus. It was first noted in the United States in September 1968. According to the most recent IDSP-IHIP (integrated health Information Platform) data, the states reported a total of 3038 laboratory-confirmed cases of various influenza subtypes, including H3N2, up until March 9 in India. It is because a good size of population is vulnerable to the infection caused by the H3N2 virus. People who are older than 65 years of age, women who are pregnant, children younger than 5 years and those with long-term health conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease, weakened immune systems, and neurological or neurodevelopmental conditions are at a higher risk of H3N2 infection.
