Underwater images typically suffer from poor visibility, color distortion, and noise due to scattering and absorption phenomena. In this work, we propose an enhanced restoration technique based on accurate background light estimation and refined transmission map correction. Initially, background light is estimated using an illumination, contrast, and color deviation prior. Then, a transmission map is calculated and corrected through a first-order guided filtering process. Finally, a variational framework restores the underwater image while suppressing noise. Experiments demonstrate significant improvements in contrast, color fidelity, and noise reduction.
