China's increasing footprint in South Asia and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) has generated significant geopolitical and strategic concerns for India. Through economic investments, infrastructure development under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and strategic military partnerships, China has sought to expand its influence in India's immediate neighbourhood. This paper examines the nature, scope, and implications of Chinese interventions in countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Bhutan, and Pakistan. It also evaluates India’s multidimensional response to these developments through economic diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and regional initiatives. The paper concludes by recommending policy measures for India to safeguard its national interests and maintain regional stability.
