This research paper introduces a novel food waste management system designed to streamline the process of redistributing surplus edible food to populations in need. The system leverages a web-based platform to connect food providers with non-profit organizations (NGOs) and volunteers, incorporating features for shelf life consideration and biogas diversion. Key entities in the system include administrators, food providers, NGOs/requesters, volunteers, and a biogas diversion facility. The proposed system offers a comprehensive solution to mitigate food waste by facilitating efficient donation matching, logistics coordination, and sustainable waste management practices. The paper also discusses the technical architecture of the system, utilizing technologies such as React, Express.js, Node.js, WebSockets, Geolocation API, Leaflet maps, MongoDB, Firebase, and Apache Kafka. Through its scalable and sustainable approach, the proposed system aims to reduce food waste, enhance food security, promote sustainable waste management, and foster volunteer engagement.
