ABSTRACT
The study empirically investigated the relationship between entrepreneurial knowledge and performance of oil and gas companies in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria. Cross-sectional survey design was adopted in accessing the study’s subjects. The population of the study was ninety-nine (99) registered oil and gas companies in Rivers State. However, a sample size of eight (80 derived from Krejcie and Morgan table was adopted for the purpose of data collection. Three (3) copies of questionnaire were administered to designated personnel (owners, account officers and procurement managers) of the 80 chosen oil and gas firms, therefore, making it a total of two hundred and forty (240) copies of questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient and Partial correlation were used to analyse the data and test the hypotheses. Cronbach Alpha was used as a measure of reliability while face validity was conducted in order to scrutinize the instrument of the various constructs. The results indicated a significant positive, and strong relationship between entrepreneurial knowledge and performance of oil and gas companies in Rivers State. In the light of the findings, the study concluded that dimensions of entrepreneurial knowledge such as managerial knowledge and supply chain relationship contribute significantly to organizational resilience and enhance organizational innovation. We, therefore, recommend that decision-makers in the oil and gas sector should encourage the development of a culture that fosters sound entrepreneurship ideas, openness to innovation – new processes and products, and general tolerance to new ideas within the organization in order to enhance resilience and innovativeness among oil and gas firms. In addition, oil and gas firms’ management should ensure that more formal budgetary control are established, and investments accordingly channelled more to productive areas, as these have been confirmed to lead to improved organizational performance.
