The implementation of a simple and affordable treadle pump has the potential to significantly improve the lives of millions of low-income families in rural regions of developing countries. This project focuses on designing a costeffective and efficient treadle pump that can be manufactured locally in major cities and distributed to remote agricultural areas. The pump operates through a stepping motion—similar to a StairMaster—which drives pistons to lift water from sources such as wells or rivers. The design emphasizes minimizing components, focusing on essential parts like the pump body, cylinders, pistons, and mounting platform. The goal is to develop a low-cost irrigation solution capable of lifting water from a depth of 8 feet, thereby supporting small-scale farmers. The project involves the study, design, fabrication, and experimental evaluation of a practical working model to ensure its feasibility and effectiveness in real-world conditions.
