This study examines the management of hospital liquid waste in Thane and suburban Mumbai, Maharashtra. With rapid urbanization and expanding healthcare facilities in these areas, efficient waste management is essential to prevent health risks and environmental pollution. Data was gathered through surveys, interviews, on-site inspections, and reviews of hospital records and regulatory compliance. The findings indicate significant liquid waste generation, including infectious materials, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. While collection and transportation practices are generally effective, inconsistencies remain. Many hospitals utilize on-site treatment systems, though adherence to discharge standards varies. Training and awareness programs for hospital staff are inconsistent, leading to gaps in waste management practices. Key challenges include inadequate infrastructure, inconsistent regulatory compliance, and insufficient staff training. To address these issues, recommendations include upgrading treatment facilities, strengthening regulatory enforcement, implementing comprehensive staff training programs, and improving coordination between hospitals and waste management agencies. Enhancing these aspects is vital for protecting public health and environmental well-being in the region.
