Nurses must regulate their stress and negative emotions to benefit their patients, families, and the healthcare team, given the physically demanding nature of the nursing profession. Individuals with high emotional intelligence find patient care more tolerable due to their ability to regulate their stress levels. This study seeks to examine the impact of emotional intelligence on stress management inside a public hospital in Gwalior, as well as the correlation between emotional intelligence and its levels among intensive care unit nurses. Fifty registered nurses from public hospitals' intensive care units completed self-report questionnaires for this cross-sectional descriptive study. Researchers utilized a straightforward sampling method to enlist their participants. We performed a data analysis. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were utilized to examine the data. The findings revealed that intensive care unit nurses had moderate to high emotional intelligence, achieving an average score of 4.2 on a 5-point scale. An negative connection (r = -0.55, p < 0.01) was found between emotional intelligence and reported strain levels, suggesting that individuals with higher emotional intelligence are more proficient at stress management. The regression analysis results demonstrated that emotional intelligence had a favorable effect on first-class patient care (β = 0.48, p < 0.01), indicating that nurses with elevated emotional intelligence deliver enhanced care. Research demonstrates that emotionally savvy intensive care unit nurses excel in stress management and provide enhanced patient care.
