A SIMPLE SMART MEDICINE BOX FOR AGED USING LOCAL MATERIALS

Medicine administration always tend to have adverse effects on the health of patients when taken out of schedule. Alzheimer’s disease is a disease likely to cause these effects on the patients due to their inability to recall their day-to-day activities. In this case, their ineffectiveness to comply to their medication as a result of memory loss and as such requires the best attention and quality health care to help improve their life span. In other to achieve this, a proposed system is designed to help the early diagnosed Alzheimer’s patients take the required medicine in the right dosage and at the right time. The basic ideology is integrating an alarm clock with a liquid crystal display (LCD), an Arduino, a multilingual software and an ultrasonic sensor, sensing on a normal pill. To make this box more effective, it has a GSM module for alerting the patient when it is time to take the drug, the family member of the patient and medical personnel if or not the patient has taken the drug. This will help provide improved quality health care and ensure the effective reminder of medication for the early diagnosed Alzheimer’s patients.
