As digital control systems for high-frequency power electronics evolve, the demand for robust, non-linear control strategies grows. This paper presents a simulation-based comparative evaluation of a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for a non-ideal Buck-Boost converter, modelled to reflect implementation on two distinct DSP platforms: the 16-bit fixed-point TMS320LF2407 and the high-performance 32-bit floating-point TMS320F28335. The converter model incorporates key parasitic elements to enable realistic characterization of system damping and ripple behaviour [1,2,7].
The MATLAB simulation environment is configured to emulate the specific hardware constraints of each processor, focusing on computational overhead, execution latency, and steady-state error. While the simulated TMS320F28335 powers its hardware floating-point unit (FPU) to execute complex Trapezoidal-based fuzzy algorithms within a 10 µs interrupt window, the TMS320LF2407 model demonstrates the need for fixed-point scaling to handle the same computational load. The results establish that integrating numerical modelling with intelligent control provides superior transient response and reduced limit-cycle oscillations when executed on advanced 32-bit floating-point processors
