Infrastructure development in Nepal, while essential for economic development, has tended to incur serious environmental losses. In Nepal, women utilize a multi-faceted but commonly ignored role as environmental stewards. This paper integrates existing research to examine women's contributions through three main roles: (1) as community mobilizers and grassroots activists; (2) as traditional knowledge-based managers of natural resources; and (3) as rising technical professionals in green infrastructure. The research fills a significant research void through systematic linking of these gendered roles with infrastructure outcomes, a sub-explored area in the Nepalese context. The research draws on an in-depth desk-based review and secondary data analysis from academic journals, government reports, and NGO case studies from 2000-2023. Comparative analysis with developed countries shows while the Nepalese context provides unique challenges, the persistent systematic exclusion of women from technical and decision-making arenas is a transnational barrier. Developed countries, however, indicate the effectiveness of forward-thinking gender-mainstreaming policies during infrastructure planning, with worthwhile lessons to impart. The paper concludes that the utilization of women's knowledge and agency is not only equitable but a strategic driver of sustainable and resilient infrastructure in Nepal.
