In the field of digital image processing, there's a high need for secure and efficient ways to encrypt images. This presents a innovative apporach to image encryption and decryption utilizing special digital circuits called reconfigurable reversible gates (RRGs). These circuits help to perform important mathematical operations known as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform (IDCT), which are crucial for compressing and reconstructing images. This technique employs RRGs to ensures that both the encryption and decryption processes are both reversible and lossless, meaning the original image can be perfectly recovered. MATLAB is used to implement and test the encryption and decryption, and Xilinx Vivado 2022.2 software to simulate the RRG-based transformations. simulations demonstrate that this approach effectively enhances image security without slowing down the processing, highlighting the potential of RRGs in making digital image encryption more safe and efficient in the future.
