Abstract

The education system in India, with roots in its colonial past, has traditionally prioritised cognitive development over other critical domains of personality. In a dynamically evolving global landscape, there is a pressing need for educational reform that fosters an integrated personality among students, encompassing cognitive acuity, emotional equilibrium, social astuteness, and ethical integrity. This article examines the impact and limitations of designing a curriculum tailored to develop such a personality in the Indian context. It proposes a structured approach that includes defining clear objectives, identifying core learning areas, incorporating diverse teaching methods, and fostering interdisciplinary integration, character education, self-reflection, and continuous feedback. Through this approach, students, teachers, parents, and the broader community can experience enhanced personal and social development. However, challenges such as the diverse educational landscape, resource constraints, and resistance to change remain significant barriers. Overcoming these limitations through collaborative efforts and strategic resource allocation can lead to a more holistic educational system, nurturing well-rounded individuals who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to the society.
