Learning Style and Effective Classroom Instruction for Diverse Learners
Learning style, multiple intelligence, diverse learners
Learning style refers to the learner’s preferred way(s) of learning or acquiring knowledge and skills. Knowing one’s learning style is of immense help to learners, so they use different learning strategies to develop a new skill or gain knowledge. This idea significantly impacts language learning in an age where learner autonomy is the guiding principle. The present study argues that knowing the learners’ learning styles is equally essential for language teachers to effectively plan their instruction in a diverse classroom setting for easy learning. The present case study focuses on Howard Gardner’s concept of multiple intelligence to assess the learning style of postgraduate learners of English language and literature in one of the central universities of India, thereby exploring ways in which classroom teaching or instruction can be planned accordingly to maximise learning.
