This study seeks to assess the correlation between the COVID-19 pandemic and the insufficient availability of water and basic sanitation in Nigeria, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring access to these essential natural resources in order to prevent the recurrence of the virus. The research employed a documentary analysis approach to evaluate several key aspects, including the accessibility of basic sanitation and safe drinking water for Nigerians, the challenges faced by Nigeria in combating COVID-19, the connection between COVID-19, water, and sanitation, as well as the scarcity of water and sanitation as a risk factor for the reoccurrence of the virus. Despite the fact that COVID-19 is currently less severe globally and particularly in Nigeria, it is crucial to continue taking precautions to prevent the resurgence of this deadly disease. One of the fundamental measures during the pandemic was ensuring unrestricted access to water and sanitation, which involved regular hand washing with soap and strict adherence to sanitary regulations and hygienic practices. Given that inadequate water and sanitation contribute to the risk of COVID-19 transmission, it is imperative to address this issue by providing sufficient water and basic sanitation facilities for the Nigerian population, thereby obstructing the potential future re-occurrence of the virus.
