DETERMINING THE SUN PROTECTION FACTOR OF LENTINULA EDODES (SHIITAKE MUSHROOM) FOR TOPICAL APPLICATIONS

This study examines the components of shiitake mushroom extract that have cosmetological applications. The research includes the Lentinula edodes ethanolic extract's tyrosine inhibition abilities, phytochemical screening, and anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial activity evaluation. The infusion extraction process was employed with the help of 70% ethanol as an extraction solvent to extract all the phytochemicals of the shiitake mushroom. Twenty compounds were identified due to GCMS analysis of an ethanolic extract of Lentinula edodes. It has been revealed that 1,2-benzene dicarboxylic acid and Isophthalic acid, monoamide, N-(3-methyl phenyl)-ethyl ester are the two compounds that are identified as potential tyrosinase inhibitor compounds.We also found high anti-oxidant activity at 8 mg/mL and a low to moderate sun protection factor of 10.89 at 20,000 ppm concentration. This mushroom has a potent ability to inhibit the growth of microbes that cause skin infections. The formulated sunscreen lotion with Lentinula edodes as a primary ingredient has an SPF value of 20.87 and is used to treat sunburns caused by UV radiation.
